Why I need the iSTEPup Foundation

My name is Miracle Makuluni, and I am a dedicated nursing and midwifery student at Kamuzu university of health sciences (KUHeS) in Malawi. I came from humble background where access to higher education is often limited by financial challenges. Despite these obstacles, I have remained committed to achieving my dreams of becoming a compassionate and competent healthcare professional who can improve the lives of individuals and communities through quality nursing care.

I am currently pursuing my studies with great determination, balancing academic work with clinical practice to develop the knowledge, skills, and professional values required in nursing and midwifery. Every day, I learn the importance of providing safe, respectful, and evidence care to patients. My long-term goal is to serve vulnerable populations, contribute to strengthening Malawi’s healthcare system, and continue my education through postgraduate studies in a specialized field of nursing.

Receiving the iSTEPup scholarship is a life changing opportunity for me. The scholarship has reduced a burden on my family and has allowed me to focus more fully on my education instead of worrying about my tuition and other education expenses. It has given me hope, confidence, and the motivation to work even harder towards achieving my academic excellence. Knowing that generous donors believe in my potential inspires me to make the most of this opportunity and to give back to the society through dedicated service. I am deeply grateful for this support and promise to use it responsibly by working hard, maintaining good academic performance, and striving to become a healthcare professional who makes a positive difference in the lives of others.

Buddy

Elian König, Resident doctor in rehabilitation medicine

My name is Elian König, and I am 30 years old. I first met Miracle during my medical elective in Malawi. We became good friends during that time and have stayed in close contact ever since. Since then, I have returned to Malawi twice: once to attend her wedding and later to meet her with and see her child. I have now graduated as a medical doctor and am currently training as a rehabilitation medicine physician. Throughout the years, Miracle and I have maintained a strong friendship, and I was very pleased to hear that she applied for the iSTEPup programme. I am happy to support her throughout this exciting new chapter in her education and career.
