Why I need the iSTEPup Foundation
I need the iSTEPup scholarship because it will give me the opportunity to continue developing my skills and education without the financial burden that often limits access to quality learning opportunities. Receiving this scholarship would allow me to focus on my studies, gain valuable knowledge, and build practical skills that will prepare me for future academic and professional success.
I am committed to learning, personal growth, and using the knowledge I gain to make a positive impact in my community. The iSTEPup program aligns with my goal of improving my abilities, expanding my career opportunities, and becoming someone who can contribute meaningfully to society.

My name is Erik Wehrens. I met Jacob through his father Amara. From 2019 till 2021 I worked in Masanga Hospital Sierra Leone where Amara and I were close colleagues. Back then Jacob was still a teenager focussing on his school work. Now a couple of years on he wants to follow in his fathers footsteps and become a health care professional. And the footsteps of Amara came quite a way. He began as a clinical health officer in Masanga when it reopened after being abandoned in the war and was later the first student in the CapaCare Surgical Task Sharing Training Program in 2011. During the years that followed he became an example and mentor for other students that passed through the same program. And that is also how I met him when I started as a medical doctor at Masanga. I know him as an excellent surgical clinician and a great colleague and with such an example I am sure Jacob will become a fantastic doctor once he finishes medical school. I am proud to be the buddy of Jacob and support him in his efforts to pursue this goal.
